A thermochromic coating that aids in a) reducing surface temperature of a structure or material when environmental temperature is relatively high and b) increasing surface temperature under relatively low environmental temperature. Surface temperature modulation is achieved using a synergistic combination of thermochromic materials and light scattering components. Useful for building materials applications such as building envelopes, vinyl or other siding, and road construction, particularly in asphalt roadways, and as coating for thermal load reduction of vehicles, including for electric vehicles.
