Biomolecular Metal-Organic Frameworks with adjustable pendant ligands

详细技术说明

*Abstract
We describe a unique class of porous biomolecular metal-organic frameworks (bioMOFs). The pore sizes within this class of materials can be tuned between 2-5 Angstrons, which is ideal for separating small gas molecules based on size (e.g. N2, CO2, CH4, etc). The pendant organic groups that are used to decorate the pores allow one to carefully adjust the gas adsorption properties of these materials. As proof of principle, we demonstrate that by varying the aliphatic carbon the technology can be used to systematiclly optimize the CO2 adsorption behavior, creating materials with ideal cavities that have high affinity for CO2 at low pressures (less than 0.1 bar) and high termperature (greater than 298 K). These unique properties render these materials ideal for CO2 capture applications (e.g. post-combustion CO2 capture from flue gas of coal fired power plants).Example ApplicationsGas FiltrationGas StorageCO2 CaptureDrug DeliveryCatalystsKey Findings1) we can carefully modulate the CO2 adsorption behavior; acheiving heats of adsorption that are stable from very low to very high loadings2) we can modulate the water stability, creating materials that are sufficiently stable for applications3) The geometry of the structures can be tuned to make them suitable for particular gas moleculesPatent StatusIn Prosecution
