A Distributed Pressure Sensing System to Prevent Bowel Perforation
- 技术优势
- The system:ΓÇóInvolves the use of small sized sensors, enabling a smooth medical procedure without potential disruptionsΓÇóIs immune to axial forces produced by potential bending of colonoscopesΓÇóAllows monitoring and management of pressure exerted by colonoscopes on colon walls, thereby preventing a perforationΓÇóIs associated with key medical applications such as reduced medical costs, prevention of patient pain, and death

- *Abstract
-
Current endoscopic/colonoscopic procedures are minimally invasive with the associated risk of potential complications. One such extremely dangerous complication is perforation (creation of a hole) of the bowel (which occurs in 0.1% cases), which at times can be fatal. Since, millions of colonoscopies are performed each year, population affected by such a condition is significant. This novel system reduces the likelihood of such bowel perforations during colonoscopy.
