Biologic Matrix for Cardiac Repair

详细技术说明

*Abstract
This device is designed to treat defects between the right and left atrium of the heart (atrial septal defect- ASD) or patent foramen ovale (PFO)).This invention offers a distinct advantage over existing technology for the primary reason that there will be minimal if any foreign material remaining in the heart following completion of the remodeling process. Thus, infection or erosion into adjacent structures is extremely unlikely to occur. In addition, the device allows for a minimally invasive procedure rather than an open chest procedure in patients affected with these diseases. However, more broadly, the invention describes a method for delivering a biologic scaffold to a cardiovascular site in need of patching or other repair. Alternatively, the device could be used to close any defect that is accessible by catheter or endoscopic approaches.Applications and Advantages1) An inductive and resorbable bioscaffold that facilitates remodeling of the native myocardium with host tissue. The device would minimize or eliminate scar tissue repair of an injured site. Furthermore, the remodeled site would grow with the patient and not require repeat surgical procedures. A frame for the bioscaffold that can accommodate multiple PFO and ASD tunnel lengths and is repositionable and retrievable. Alternatively, the scaffold could be sutured in place endovascularly. Thus, creating a totally resorbable bioscaffold device.2) The biologic nature of this scaffold mitigates or totally eliminates problems with the long-term presence of a foreign material in the heart. The reason that long-term problems do not exist is that the bioscaffold resorbs completely and is replaced by native tissue.Provisional Patent Application Filed
