The tandem cold rolling of metal strip is a complex multivariable process whose control represents a significant engineering challenge. Existing control systems which are based on present technology are limited in their capability for improvement. This disclosure presents a new method for the control of a tandem cold rolling mill process which offers improvements over the present technology in performance and in robustness to exogenous disturbances and uncertainties in modeling and in measurements. The improvements are verified by comparing the results of simulations against results obtained using typical industrial practice. Possible potential markets are providers and users of control systems for cold rolling processes.Non Provisional and PCT Patent Applications Filed.
