FERRITE CATALYST FOR A SYNTHESIS OF STYRENE AND A PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE THEREOF
The invention provides a ferrite catalyst for synthesis of styrene, comprising potassium ferrite at the level of 80-99.97% and additives selected from the group comprising MgO, Al2O3, TiO2, Cr2O3, MnO2, CuO, ZrO2, CeO2, individually or as a mixture, at the level of 0,03-20% by weight. The catalyst comprises in contact with each other at least two active ferrite phases, one of which only is doped, the doped phase being the potassium-low phase, and the undoped phase being the potassium-rich phase.
Styrene is today one of the basic raw materials in the polymer industry.It is used for polystyrene, styrene copolymers, synthetic rubber and butadiene-styrene resins preparation. It is also a substrate in many organic syntheses. Over 90% of world production of styrene is obtainedby catalytic dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene.
