Recent advances in power electronics and semiconductor technologies and cost reduction of solar panels have profound impact on the commercial acceptance of grid connected photovoltaic (PV) systems. Among various choices, high energy-efficient AC-modules that consist of an inverter are suitable for small-scale modular-based systems. They allow a direct connection to the grid and convert sunlight into electricity. Apart from providing high system flexibility and expandability, AC-module concept can also overcome many operational difficulties. The technology has tackled several technical challenges to make it compatible with energy-efficient and reliable micro-grid PV inverters.
