To isolate micro-particles, CityU researchers have developed a method that makes use of moving optical tweezers in the microfluidic chip. The design of the sorter is based on dynamic fluid and light patterns, which enable the sorting of micro-particles, such as cells, from a small amount of samples with high accuracy. The particles in the fluid can be optically identified based on their traits. Movements of optical traps can be optimized to improve trapping efficiency.
