Development of Photocatalytic Condensate-recovery Air-conditioning System for High Energy Efficiency and Good Indoor Air Quality

总结

Conventional air-conditioning (AC) systems produce considerable amount of cold condensate as moist air is cooled below the dew point. The condensate is commonly drained resulting in thermal loss. The waste thermal energy can be recovered to increase the overall coefficient of performance (COP) by circulating the cold condensate to have direct contact with the airflow for cooling air. The circulating condensate can also wash the air to remove airborne particulates and microorganisms to improve indoor air quality (IAQ). The circulating condensate will become contaminated as it removes and collects pollutants from the air treated. In this project, we develop photocatalytic condensate-recovery AC systems and effective nano-photocatalysts for purification of the circulating condensate. Photocatalysts of various innovative nano-structures and material modifications have been fabricated and evaluated for their photocatalytic water purification effect.
技术应用

The target application of this project is for air-conditioning systems. Moreover, other promising applications of the nano-photocatalysts developed include water purification, NOx removal, renewable hydrogen production, and solar cells etc.
