总结

IP (Internet Protocol) networks are traditionally designed to support a best-effort service, with no guarantees on the reliable and timely delivery of packets. With the migration of ubiquitous network to support real-time applications such as voice onto IP-based platforms, the existing IP networks need to provide Quality-of-Service (QoS) levels that end-users are accustomed to.

This invention introduces a route computation algorithm and a load-distribution scheme for computed routes. This results in a non-blocking backbone network, which can always accommodate a new service level agreement (SLA) as long as the source and destination routers have capacity to set up the flow. The call admission control (CAC) in such a non-blocking backbone network is localized and greatly simplified. When comparing to the conventional network, this non-blocking backbone network also allows hard QoS to be supported in large scale and cross domains in the Internet.
