A new technology for measuring liquid crystal (LC) cell properties is invented. Optical properties and characteristics of LC cells including cell gap, twist angle and rubbing directions of a liquid crystal cell can therefore be measured. They are important parameters for the operation of a liquid crystal display (LCD). The invention allows measurement of cell gaps of both empty and filled cells, and comparison of cell thickness before and after LC filling. It will save considerable manufacturing time and materials, and improve the yield for LCD manufacturers.
