Motion Deblurring with Two-phase PSF Estimation

- One of the most common artifacts in digital photography is motion blur caused by camera shake. In many situations there simply is not enough light to avoid using a long shutter speed and the inevitable result is that many of our snapshots come out blurry and disappointing. Our method can recover an unblurred image from a single, motion-blurred photograph without needing to adopt any means, using either hardware or software, to obtain the blur kernel - or point spread function (PSF) - beforehand. Our new system is able to estimate very large blur kernels that span dozens of pixels and recover the structure information embedded in the blurred photos without much user interference. It has potential to be used in all photo editing software or be coded into camera to remove unpleasing blur artifacts.
