A plant gene expression system for processing, targeting and accumulation of foreign proteins in transgenic seeds
- Summary
- The present invention relates generally to an expression system for processing, targeting and stable accumulation of these target proteins in transgenic plant seeds. The method provides a general strategy in which unique transmembrane and cytoplasmic tail sequences are used as anchors for delivering recombinant target proteins via distinct vesicular transport pathways to specific vacuolar compartments enabling stable accumulation of foreign target proteins in transgenic plants. The present invention is particularly useful for its flexibility to allow the target proteins to bypass or subject to post-translational modifications such as glycosylation.
