- Detailed Technology Description
- With an increasing demand of wearable displays, various devices such as LED, OLED and optical fibres have been integrated into clothes. However, their high energy consumption and rigidity limit the applicability of various light-emitting devices in textiles. This project has developed a sustainable way of fabricating a soft electrochromic yarn, which can exhibit colour change when low voltages are applied, providing feasibility for design of textile displays. A mobile application has been devised to control colour-change display to make usage easier. This technology can be applied in performance clothing, accessories and toys.
Not only does it provide a promising energy-saving technology for futuristic textile display, with wide and easy application in the textile industry, it also opens up opportunities for next-generation smart displays for fashion textiles.
